seriously, i don't know why it surprises me, as it shouldn't, yet i wanted to jump out of my skin at McCain's reckless attempt to feign empathy for children with autism. the first comment i thought, ummm did he just confuse downs-syndrome with autism? okay maybe he is just trying to capture special needs, maybe he is not a total effin idiot!!!! (wrong, he is) but as he continued to conveniently emphasize autism as a condition that he and his running mate know so much about was unnerving. the man is most likely only aware of autism since it has gained so much press in recent years. proclaiming palin as an autism expert, better than most....his words were ill-timed, and insensitive. describing the poor precious kids with special needs at the town hall meeting. damn if that doesn't just piss me off.

and who is better than most? which side of that statement do we fall into i wonder as i look at my sweet spirited boy. i look in the mirror and see a woman trying to do better, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. what does he know about my life? or the lives of so many that have been changed in so many ways by autism. what does he know of this spectrum that is so wide and so deep?
