nyc - mexico

last time i was on the plane, lists were being made – a path to the planet. a chart was being studied, laid out. now
it is complete, hanging on my wall to watch, track and wait. today i’m flying to new york. a business trip. i’m not as eager as i’d hoped to be to greet the city again, see new things, have new experiences, remember feelings and experiences from the last visit. i’m sure that will come…later. for now i sit in the way back of the plane and stare out the window at the white floor created by clouds. the sun is shining brightly, ben harper is in my ears…singing about the right vibe for the planet. my heart is beating in my throat. today was the last morning together for some time. hurts to think about.

my mind rewinds to spring. we were mexico bound. on a midnight flight. leaving the cold kenny house after a late night final sorting of our backpacks. headed for warmth and minimal things. so much excitement. our first true travel adventure. intermittent sleep on the flights. i’ll never forget the early morning layover in houston. the free-flowing conversations about our dreams. realizing they blend and harmonize easily. synchronicity.

the pilot announced this morning that it was cold and windy in NY today. on that flight we arrived in the morning to sun and heat. scoping UR van as we ride into town.

the bahia hotel, such a find. the
sunshine day led to a stormy night. i still can’t believe how hard it was raining and blowing, crazy. walking in flip-flops through puddle – filled streets to dinner . a few days alone to lay out the town, grab a blanket, a scooter, scope beaches…all things falling into place.

waiting at casa ogletree for our friends to arrive. an energy shift. making our own. the next several days brought early morning scooter rides with crap coffee in hand, but we still got it, every day. maybe just so we could cruise through our “old” neighborhood. scooting to the boat, amazing diving. the ocean. weird fishes. 7 tanks of air – so cool. great times on the dive boat with everyone. total characters. spliffs, sand, shared music, tequila, spanish in our ears, all around us, between us. no nos importa que lo piensen. words to live by. so much frisbee time, ocean time, pool time – wade a classic, our stolen helmets, returning the scooter, such luck. seriously.

there is just something about a warm climate (the packing sure is easier i will say that). the feelings it brings. the ocean swell, the rhythm, it just frees the soul. the beach, sand in your bed, salt on your lotion-lathered skin.

thoughts of it all is making me smile. which is needed today.

I look at that first picture, and all I can think is, "peace".

It looks so good on you.

I felt like I was with you there on the plane. Maybe because I have been there, alone, feeling the same way, on a different plane. Hold the warm sun in your heart and maybe, from time to time, some tequila to warm your stomach. Both ease the transition.
